چکیده
Pollution by polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) is a major concern due to their bioaccumulation, persistence, and carcinogenicity. This study aimed investigate the decabrominated ether (BDE-209) photodegradation in soil suspensions. The results indicate BDE-209 can degrade suspensions its degradation follows pseudo-first-order kinetics. light sources intensity effects were studied rates 500 W Mercury Lamp > 300 Xenon Lamp, which indicates UV main reason for degradation. Soil particle inhibits light-shielding effect. increased from 0.055 0.071 h?1 with pH value increasing 3.5 9.5. may be because products are more easily produced higher presence of humic acid (HA) inhibit photo-shielding. Fe3+ Cu2+ have an adverse effect on photo competition. •OH 1O2 detected solutions. Analysis photoproducts gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) liquid time flight (LC-TOF-MS) showed that was mainly debrominated lower-brominated BDEs reactive oxygen radicals not lead

Combined effects of cadmium and decabrominated diphenyl ether on thyroid hormones in rats.
The aim of this study was to see how a mixture of cadmium (Cd) and decabrominated diphenyl ether (BDE209) affect thyroid function, namely thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroxin (T4), free thyroxin (FT4), triiodothyronin (T3), and free triiodothyronin (FT3) in Wistar rats (eight per group) receiving either a single substance or their combination by gavage for 28 days. Three groups were rece...
متن کاملDetermination of Decabrominated Diphenyl Ether in Soils by Soxhlet Extraction and High Performance Liquid Chromatography
This study described the development of a method based on Soxhlet extraction combining high performance liquid chromatography (Soxhlet-HPLC) for the accurate detection of BDE-209 in soils. The solvent effect of working standard solutions in HPLC was discussed. Results showed that 1:1 of methanol and acetone was the optimal condition which could totally dissolve the BDE-209 in environmental samp...
متن کاملTissue Distribution and Associated Toxicological Effects of Decabrominated Diphenyl Ether in Subchronically Exposed Male Rats
Concerns about decabrominated diphenyl ether (BDE-209) have arisen recently due to its increasing concentrations in the environment. We investigated the tissue concentration, distribution, and the debromination of BDE-209 after oral exposure, using rats as a model. Three groups of male rats were administrated by oral gavage with corn oil containing 0, 10, or 50 mg/kg bw/day of BDE-209 over 90 d...
متن کاملEffects of Decabrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE-209) in Regulation of Growth and Apoptosis of Breast, Ovarian, and Cervical Cancer Cells
BACKGROUND Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), commonly used in building materials, electronics, plastics, polyurethane foams, and textiles, are health hazards found in the environment. OBJECTIVE In this study we investigated the effects of PBDE-209, a deca-PBDE, on the regulation of growth and apoptosis of breast, ovarian, and cervical cancer cells as well as the underlying protein alter...

Flame retardants are used to suppress or inhibit combustion processes in an effort to reduce the risk of fire. One class of flame retardants, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), has been found to be increasing in the environment and in human milk. Previous studies have shown that lower brominated PBDEs, tetra-, penta-, and hexabrominated diphenyl ethers, can cause developmental neurotoxic e...
